Storyboarding

Props, Costume, Make-up and Equipment

After discussing possible options of Props/Costumes/Makeup the list above shows our ideas. Overall we chose to not have any make-up for our performers as it does not link into our concept and we found that with the band members being male and we are going for a more trendy and naturalistic look we felt it would not make sense. But with all our prop decisions they make sense to our video ideas and when thinking of the props whilst looking over our story board we can envision how the video will look and from that it is understandable. This then is the same for our costume ideas, and with everything put together it will potentially make our music video more professional.

Song Details

The song we chose is Blue Cassette by Friendly Fires.
We chose this song as it fits in with our genre. It does not have a music video therefore meaning we can make a creative, original video for the song without having something to compare it to. The upbeat tempo will make it fun to create a video to and the lack of narrative in the lyrics it means we have lots of choice when it comes to deciding what type of video to make.

Roles

There are 4 of us in our group; Me, Nicole, Chris and Kris. We all do different subjects in which should help us with this project in different ways. Each of us shall get a chance to film and edit a bit of the video therefore their are only curtain roles we need to divide up.

Chris' role will be sound. He does music and plays the guitar therefore will know what needs to be done. Chris may also be in the actual video, depending on the characters needed.

The other Kris' role will be lighting. Chris has previously helped with this kind of thing therefore it will be a great help to our piece.

Nicole's role will be costume/props. She is quite arty and creative therefore will be good at thinking up suitable attire for the video. Nicole will also be taking the pictures for the album cover and video as she does photography. Nicole may also be in the video.

My role is going to be sound, with chris. I do music tech and music so i should be able to help in that way. I may also be in the video, depending on parts needed.

We have decided that we will all help decide on location together as we think this will have a better outcome.

Initial Ideas

When first given the brief we started to discuss bands and artists we all liked. When we had decided on a few we researched them online and found that most of them were not British bands/artists therefore we were not able to use their songs. Although this was a bit upsetting, we still found some really good bands to choose from! After narrowing these choices down we realised that all our artists fit into a few genres therefore when it cameto deciding one genre it was quite easy for us.

Audience research 2- Results

The results of this question show that the majority of people that completed a survey were between the ages of 15 and 25.
This is approximately the age i wanted as my target audience therefore there following answers will be helpful to me  when making my music video.
The reason i asked this question was to determine what age of people thought what about the following questions.

This shows that more females completed my survey than males. This effects my research as males and females will want to see different things in my video. My target audience was male and females therefore it does not matter to my research that more females took part, i will still get a view from both.

The results from this question show that Indie Rock/Pop music is popular within the age group of my target audience and also with both genders. This is a good thing for me as it means my video will be popular with my target audience as they enjoy the style of music. Although some of my target audience members said they didn't enjoy this music, the majority said they did therefore i am safe with my choice in genre and target audience.

The results from this question show that, again, the majority of people taken part in my survey do enjoy watching music videos. All of these people were within the ages of my target audience (15-25) therefore this is a big help. This means that now, the majority of my target audience like the genre of music i have chosen and now all like the idea of a music video for it. This gives me the impression i made the right decision with the genre of music to choose.

This question hasn't helped me as much as i had hoped it would. With the majority of people saying they didn't mind if there was a narrative or not in the video. This still leaves me to make the decision at a risk. More people did however say that they would prefer a narrative than none at all therefore leaving me to either follow the majority or risk not. This question has still been helpful to me as it shows me that as long as whats in the video is good, my audience don't mind how i do it.

Advertisement Research

Conventions of an Advert

1. Name of band
2. Name of Album
3. Picture (normally the album cover)
4. Release date
5. Where/how you can get the album (shops, downloads- iTunes, internet...)
6. The band/artists website
7. Bold/will stand out!

Biffy Clyro

This is an advert for Biffy Clyro's album, Saturday Superhouse.
There is a lot going on is this advert and that is why it caught my eye.
The first thing i noticed was the fire. It draws you in and gives the audience the idea that the fire reflects the music in the way that it may be angry. Then, when you look to the right, you notice the man getting water splashed on his face. This counteracts the fire and therefore gives the idea that maybe their music is trying to fight anger. After that you notice the man on the left who looks like he is being taken back by wind, as his tie is blowwing behind him. You then realise that they have used the 3 elements, Wind Fire and Rain, in the poster on each band member. THis could tell us that they are representing the world and the way it works in their music and showing diversity.
Having their name in big writing at the top makes sure that people realise who the band are and it stands out to the audience.
The other objects in the picture are very obscure. They dont really make sense with the rest of the picture. This could represent the fact that they are different, not like other bands and that they want to be unique to stand out.
At the bottom you have the name of the album and the release date  ect. This is just general information that the audience needs to know in order to get the album.

YourCodeNameIs

This is an advert for YourCodeNameIs' album, They Came From The Sun.
When you look at the picture it automatically relates to the album title. It is strange and thats why it catches your eye. THe use of the yellow makes it bright and welcoming and draws you in. The men on the floor are the centre of the picture, they draw you in as you have questions you want to ask them.
the band name and album title are not very big on the poster however because the picture draws you in you then notice the text.
'ALBUM OUT NOW' this is in bigger text then the rest of the text on the screen. It stands out and interests you into the rest of the advert.

Arcade Fire

This is an advert for Arcade Fire's album, Neon Bible.
At first glance you dont really understand the picture. This is what draws you into the poster. As you look harder\closer you realise that it is a neon bible. The picture links in with the album title and drws us in. The band name and album title stand out because they are white against a black background. THe main featuse of the advert is the picture but all the text also stands out.
The text at the botom is also clear and bright which means people dont have to look to hard to fing the important information.

All of the above will be usefull for when i make my digi pack as they all are similar in genre and have curtain feature that stand out.
