'The Look'
When researching different bands within our genre we looked closely at the look of the band. The band image. we found that most of the time, the bands image matched their style of music. For a lot of the bands, their image was quite similar however their were artist that stood out from the rest.
To do this we looked at picture of the bands but also their album covers, we did this as it can give us an idea of what image of themselves they want people to see.
In this collage there are a few of the bands we looked into.
For example, Friendly Fires. If you look to the top left of the collage you will see there is the album cover 'Paris'. We can see that it is quite simple however still catches our eye. The band members are on the album cover which tells us maybe they are not a very big, commercialised. There is another of their album covers in this collage. This one however is very bright and colourful. Also the band members are not on this cover, this could mean that it is a later album cover and they don't feel the need to be on it. There are also a few pictures of the band themselves. In these you can see that they are quite young, they look fun and happy which draws people into them. They are quite quirky and geeky which makes them stand out and makes people like them.
To the right of Friendly Fires is Franz Ferdinand. There are two album covers on the collage; 'Can't stop feeling' and 'Tonight'. We can see that all their album covers have the same layout: black and white image as the background, white and orange text. And also the band members are always on the covers. When we looked at picture of the band we found that unlike Friendly Fires, Franz Ferdinand look smarter, almost more serious wearing suits. We decided that although they may look more sophisticated than the other bands, they still look young and fun.
Also on the collage is The Vaccines. They are similar in image to Friendly Fires, looking young and fun however a little older. The way they dress looks a little old fashioned compared to the other bands. On their album covers they have their band name in big letters and an image of a woman, this shows that they do not want to be shown on the album covers and that maybe there target audience is males because of the female picture.
Everything Everything and The Fatellis are both on the collage. They are both rather similar, both young, a little quirky and different, a lot like Friendly Fires.
Everything Everything's album covers are quite controversial with the image of a fox. However, The Fatellis' album covers are provocative drawngs of old fashioned women cleaning, cooking; stereotypical female roles. These both reflect the quirkiness of their music.
The last band on the collage are the Noisettes. The Noisettes are different from the other bands as they have a female lead singer, who is also their led guitarist. It automatically give them edge from the rest of the bands in this genre and draws people in. Their album covers are quite different in the fact that they are very colourfull and loud, also, band members are always on the covers looking young and fun!
