Conventions of an Indie music video

Narrative! Most of the time with this genre there is a narrative however it isn't always very clear. It isn't as word for word as the Illustration theory however it does make sense with the songs lyric.

For example, he make references to flying and travelling whilst in the video he is in a plane. 




and again, now he sings about hawian air..





Cinematography!

There are lots of close ups of band members throughout the videos. Also, the band get a lot of screen time in them all. We found that when it comes to cinematography, all the bands have similar ideas for their videos.

Editing!

I found that when watching different videos within the genre they all tend to stuck to the rule of cutting shots to the beat. There are occasional videos in which off beat cuts are used but not in many. Also, in all the videos i have looked at within the genre, every one contains lip syncing.

Performance!

n all of the videos i have watched of this genre, the band always feature in them and always have a fair bit of screen time! 
In a lot of the videos, the band features performing the song, as if at a live gig. 
however in some, they are just characters within the video. 


For example in this video Franz Ferdinand are performing the song as a band..
